Our member farms have been farming in the beautiful English countryside for over 100 years, passing down from generation to generation, so we understand the need to take care of our land for the future. Our goal is to create sustainable working farms that give back to nature and the local communities.
Our dairy cows are cared for to the highest animal welfare standards, spending on average 180 days grazing outside each year – the rest of the time, like people, they prefer to avoid the rain!
We work closely with our member farmers, who are measured on their high-quality milk and farming practices through being Red Tractor Assured and in addition, adhere to our Care 365 programme, which details our high expectations on animal welfare, farm, and milk quality 365 days of the year.
More About Care 365Through our ‘We Care’ Farm Programme, we are constantly driving environmental best practice and developments in key areas on our farms including feed, fuel, fertiliser, and land management through improving natural eco-systems.
We have recently carried out carbon footprint audits on all 33 of our member farms as a part of assessing the on-farm carbon footprint of milk production. The results showed that on average across all member farms, carbon emissions are less than 50% the Global average*. We are now working closely with our farms to improve this further over the coming years.
We also take pride in the wildlife conservation initiatives across our farms to protect and nurture the countryside where we work. Across several farms you’ll see birds of prey nesting in bird boxes, ponds to promote water biodiversity, with tree and hedgerow planting initiatives to create buffer strips to protect species diversity and habitats.
